Hidden Pond Fundraiser at Wholefoods Market

Hidden Pond Nature Center and the Springfield Whole Foods Market are joining together for a 5% day, Wednesday August 22, in which 5% of all net sales at the Market will be donated to Hidden Pond. The money will be used to help support educational programs at the Nature Center. Naturalists from Hidden Pond will be at the Springfield Whole Foods from 10 a.m. till 7 p.m. outside with displays, live reptiles and amphibians, and snacks, so bring the kids!

The Springfield Whole Foods Market is located at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, 22152.

Baby Sapping Turtle

Baby Snapping TurtleThis young snapping turtle, born late last summer, can now be seen along with some other little ones sunning themselves in the shallows of the pond on warm spring mornings. The orange coloration is due to the iron rich mud it was hibernating in.

Six Little Goslings

The resident Canada Geese had six little goslings a little over a week ago. Pictured here is the mom and babies taking a rest in the sun while the father keeps watch. Come watch them grow up!

Almost done!

 

The stone work for the courtyard is now complete. All that remains to be done is to grow some grass. Native plants might also be added around the back wall. Come take a look!

Courtyard Progress

This is the progress of the courtyard as of April 14th. This courtyard will not only help with the accumulation of rainwater in front of the nature center, but it will accommodate large school groups who come and visit Hidden Pond.
